Feline Enforcement
This is our cats, enforcing our daily Bible-reading and prayer time.
I get easily distracted. I worry about being faithful to teach my kids “enough,” to raise them faithfully in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Bible is one of the “subjects” we study at home—but it was constantly in competition with all the other things, plus housekeeping, plus outside commitment, plus making sure everyone has a healthy breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack, plus, plus…then it recently dawned on me, that if I only accomplish one thing with my kids in a day, that thing should be reading the Word of God.
So now, after my earlier quiet time, which I’ve habitually scheduled before everyone else is up, as soon as everyone else is awake we read the Bible together and pray. Even when we feel like we have too much to do, the cats help enforce our morning routine.
Thankfully, my kids are old enough now that I can generally count on full and fruitful days with them—but still. Our morning routine (and cats) help us stand on truth, and like Joshua, we can say, “Choose this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
