Abnormality of the “New Normal”
"The foundation of all free government and of all social order must be laid in families and in the discipline of youth." --Noah Webster
I think this is worth saying:
A friend brought to my attention that what you are experiencing right now, as you find yourself suddenly teaching kids in isolation at home, is NOT normal homeschooling. And that is So True.
Our usual week includes co-op classes, daily out-of-home activities, and interaction with lots of people in a variety of settings every day! So if you’re struggling with this isolation and the shock of this whole experience, thinking, “See? I knew I wasn’t cut out for this homeschool thing!” I would urge you to understand that this is not a normal homeschool experience.
I HAVE homeschooled in isolation before for various reasons (for a limited time) and I can tell you, what you are doing now is MUCH harder than normal homeschool. You are all amazing! You can do this! This, too, shall pass!
As another homeschool momma said, at the end of the day, you will not be thinking about how much math you covered during the pandemic, you’ll just remember the time with your family. So maybe you just need to spend this time enjoying one another—and that is not just “good enough”. It is EXCELLENT and SO WORTHY.
And if there’s some way I can help, please ask!
