Getting Started Homeschooling: What Do I Do?

Hi friends!

If you are interested learning more about first steps of homeschooling, I have a few links to get you started!

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA)

HSLDA has HEAPS of awesome resources--even age-specific consultants to help you! I highly recommend becoming a member of HSLDA for every single homeschool family and I know many of the staff personally--they are amazing people who absolutely love helping homeschool families! Click here to see their "Getting Started" page of resources for families interested in or new to homeschooling.

The Christian Association of Parent Educators of New Mexico (CAPE-NM):

There is a state organization for homeschoolers in almost every state now, and CAPE-NM is ours! I cannot say enough good things about CAPE--they put on amazing events to support and equip homeschool families and they are constantly working to keep homeschoolers up-to-date with what the legislature is doing and how it impacts homeschoolers. Since regulations and requirements for homeschoolers differs state to state, see New Mexico-specific tips on getting started here on CAPE's "Getting Started" page.

The Homeschool Revolution - The Schoolhouse Rocked Movie

There are so many myths about homeschooling, and having grown up in the 90s homeschool movement and now homeschooling my own kids, I've heard most of them! This hour-and-a-half film really does a great job answering those myths and explaining why so many Christians have turned from the "norm" of government schools to homeschooling. If you are still wondering if Homeschooling is for you, I urge you to take advantage of the opportunity to stream this movie for free! It is worth the time, I promise you! (To hear more from the various sources in the film, check out the 2023 Homegrown Generations Family Expo. This will help guide you to a solid starting point for curriculum resources, worldview training, and simple encouragement as you figure out this whole homeschooling thing!)

And, as always, please REACH OUT if you have any questions! Every homeschooler you know will be happy to help point you toward their favorite resources!

Blessings!
